The Savoir Faire A Capella group practices in the Music Building on Sunday, April 12, in preparation for their spring concert. "We use the piano to give starting pitches," Assistant Director, Sarah Wait says, "It's a lot better than the pitch pipe, but there isn't one always available."
Following their indoor practice on April 12, Savoir Faire moved their practice outside. The group enjoys practicing in different spaces and locations with different acousitcs so they are able to hear how they sound in a variety of ways.
Dana Clinque looks over sheet music during rehearsal on April 12, 2015. Since she arranges many of Savoir Faire's songs, she is extremely good at reading music, "For the songs I don't arrange, I can usually sightread my part." Clinque also says most of them can't look at the sheet music and be able to pick out the note they need without hearing it first, so they need a starting note to go off of.
Savoir Faire eat on the go on April 12 as they rush from a performance to their first recording session ever. The song they recorded, Sassfest, is a mash up created by the group themsevles. They decided to choose this song because they have received such great audience responce from it.
On Saturday, April 25, Mariel Blassetti takes a pre-concert selfie after doing her hair and make up. She then posted her selfie on snapchat and other social media platforms to promote the Savoir Faire concert.
Ellie Eastman, a junior at Penn State, introduces one of the many seniors for their senior solo song. Eastman loves to perform because of the interaction she gets from the crowd. "I love exuding joy and happiness so others can feel the same. The only time I don't enjoy performing is if I can't feel the audience responding," she says.
Sarah Wait does her make up three hours before her concert on Saturday, April 25. "We have sound check and need to make sure the mics are at the right levels and do quick run throughs of the songs," she says, "It takes a lot of time."
Sarah Wait performs her senior solo, "The Lonely", at the Savoir Faire A Capella Spring Concert on Saturday, April 25. Since there are so many seniors graduating this year, 6 out of the 11 songs performed were senior solos.
After finishing their performance on April 25, Savoir Faire take their bow and laugh together for the last time. They are the only all female A Capella group on the Penn State campus and plan to keep it that way.
